Technical Lead

If you are an ambitious, commercially-minded developer who is ready for the next step in their career, we invite you to apply to join our team based in our stunning new open-plan offices in the heart of Bath.

We strongly welcome applications from every part of the community. We believe in making EZ Education a diverse and inclusive place to work for all.

EZ Education are the creators of DoodleMaths and DoodleEnglish: award-winning, affordable online programmes which help children feel confident about learning.

The role

Our company values are well-being, integrity, growth mindset, focus and education. We have ambitious plans for how we want the Doodle platform to develop over the next few years. You will lead the engineering team in building this, embracing the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with a bright, ambitious and expanding team currently numbering seven. Our technology is hugely popular with schools and families; part of your remit will be to ensure it remains robust and scalable as we continue to grow. A keen interest in education is vital – Doodle has already had a huge impact on thousands of children’s lives, and you will work directly with the founders to ensure their future vision becomes a reality.

Our technology:

Our tech stack makes extensive use of AWS, with the bulk of the back-end supporting our dashboards and API developed in PHP and Vue.js, using the Laravel framework. AWS RDS Aurora MySQL is used for our back-end relational database. We use PHPUnit for automated feature testing and our code is maintained in various git repositories via AWS CodeCommit. Our mobile applications are currently built using Corona Labs cross-platform SDK; a primary focus of the team this year has been transitioning to using Unity – a move which is nearing completion.

Knowledge/Experience required

  • Minimum 5 years’ full stack software development experience as part of a dynamic team
  • Some experience in managing a team
  • Excel when given responsibility and happy to work independently
  • A passion for education
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Keen to learn and can nurture sense of curiosity in others
  • Desire to keep abreast of current changes and trends in technology
  • Love of architecting software solutions
  • Keen to work as part of a team

If this sounds like you and you would like to apply, it is essential that you write a covering email and then follow up with a phone call. CV only applications WILL NOT be considered or replied to. We want to know why you would like to join our company and see your communication skills in action, and we’d love to hear examples of you mentoring, coaching and growing individuals and teams.
